Season 1

Reimagining chamber music through interdisciplinary collaboration

Our inaugural season brought us to the Alta Arts and the Orange Show in concerts that celebrated the city we call home. Former Houston Poet Laureate, Outspoken Bean, took our audiences on journeys that covered everything from Hurricane Harvey and the resilience of Houstonians, to the feeling of saying goodbye to loved ones at Hobby airport. Alongside, HMF's musicians performed works ranging from Brahms trios to Beyoncé covers and mariachi classics.

An immersive concert weaving together poetry and storytelling with chamber music and improvisation. This was a uniquely Houstonian story told through the lens of those who call it home, with improvisations and dialogue on what it means to live in our city with wordsmith Outspoken Bean.

This free concert was a true celebration of Houston, and the many different communities that call this city home. Emceed by Outspoken Bean, and featuring string quartet works by Nicky Sohn and Reena Esmail, your favorite tunes by homegrown artists Beyoncé and Lizzo, and covers of mariachi classics.
